Jose A. Ortiz

Jose A. Ortiz, passed away on April 27, 2026, in Rochester, New York. Born on December 23, 1968, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, Mr. Ortiz lived a life marked by hard work, commitment, and devotion to his family and community.

Throughout his career, Jose was known for his professionalism and reliability behind the wheel a dedicated CDL truck driver, his role was more than a job; it was a testament to his perseverance and strong work ethic, qualities that he carried with pride until the end of his days.

Jose’s journey began in the vibrant island of Puerto Rico, where he was born to his parents, Jose and Tomasita, who have since passed. He later made Rochester, New York, his home, where he lived surrounded by loved ones and where he ultimately departed this life, and will join his son Ruben Ortiz, whom also preceded him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Damaris Rodriguez, who stood by his side through every chapter of their lives together. Jose was a devoted father to his daughters and son: Humerto (Jasmine) Ortiz, Damaris Ortiz, Andreina (Glenford) Josephs, Cristal Ortiz, and Jessenia. His legacy also lives on in his cherished grandchildren—Juilette, Roberto, Melanie, Avery, and Frank—who brought joy and light to his life.

Jose was also a treasured sibling, with his brother and sisters, Maria del Carmen Ortiz Maldonado, Lilliam Ivette Ortiz Lopez, Rafael Mejia Rivera (Lillians), Marysol Ortiz Lopez, and Jose Orlando Ortiz Lopez continuing to remember him with love and respect.

Jose also leaves behind many more loving relatives and dear friends both here inNew York and in Puerto Rico.

Mr. Ortiz’s life was marked by both deep love and sorrow. He mourned for the loss of his son, Ruben, who preceded him in death, leaving a profound impact on the family.

A visitation will be held on Friday May 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Chapels, located at 4545 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612. The following day, Saturday May 2, 2026, 9:30 a.m. a Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester, NY 14615, honoring his memory and celebrating his life. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

A lo largo de su carrera, José fue conocido por su profesionalismo y confiabilidad al volante como dedicado conductor de camiones con licencia CDL. Su labor fue más que un empleo; fue un testimonio de su perseverancia y sólida ética de trabajo, cualidades que llevó con orgullo hasta el final de sus días.

Le sobrevive su amada esposa, Damaris Rodriguez, quien estuvo a su lado en cada etapa de sus vidas juntos. Las visitas se llevarán a cabo el viernes 1 de mayo de 2026, de 3:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m., en Thomas Funeral Chapels, ubicado en 4545 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612. Al día siguiente, sábado 2 de mayo de 2026, 9:30am se celebrará una misa en Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester, NY 14615, en honor a su memoria y celebrando su vida. El sepelio se llevará a cabo a continuación en Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
